The things you think about riding along on an Amtrak train. The mind wanders. It’s a little like singing in the shower or those semi-lucid moments at four a.m. when you are wishing you could sleep…kinda like right now as I type this on the gBerry, (ain’t technology great?).
Last year about this time, I was embarking on a roadtrip to North Carolina to ring in the supermodified season at Ace Speedway. It turned out to be the start of a lot of new friendships and the re-birth of old ones that had withered from lack of TLC.
In years past, I would have been In Cali doin the same at the “Lizard Lounge” enjoying the warm sunshine and sweet fragrance of orange blossoms in the Central Valley melding and mingling with the eye burning smell of spent methanol at Madera Speedway.
April showers should be called April flowers in this supermodified fan’s world because it’s always been this time of year that new things start to bloom.
This year, it’s a little different. I’m embarking on a new journey. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a ‘new beginning’, but I do believe it’s a bit like getting out into the spring garden and tilling up some new soil in order to have more room to sow seeds that will bear good fruit from stronger vines.
This whole Must See Racing deal is something that I’ve been hoping to get planted for a while now. Ya know? I’ve not really said a whole lot here about how I really feel. I’ve spoken at length about it on the show, but here, well here is where I let it roll so to speak.
It’s good folks. And not just because I think it’s good for Bob Gangwer, it’s good because the seeds are sown in good soil. The seeds that have been planted are not just going to be thrown into the ground and left to the elements while the gardener walks away without tending them. I see that the gardener is a master at watering, fertilizing, pruning, and nurturing the seedlings to maturity in order to bear good fruit.
So many times, I’ve been caught up in the storm that washed away seeds of truth, plants of transparency, and fruit of progress.
I don’t believe it’s so this time around. No this growing season is going to be one of bounty. This harvest will bring about food for the division I love. Our banquet table will be overflowing with new varieties of delicacies and seated at that table will be guests who are willing to share the feast and linger long enough for the type of positive, insightful, and forward conversation that all good dinner parties should be made of.
So the question remains-are you the type of gardener that waters his seeds and tends his plants to bear good fruit, or are you the type that would rather scatter the seeds to rocky soil without water and then wonder why the plants never grew?
Let me know what kind of garden you think will grow this supermodified season in the comment section below.
