Here I go again. Up, Up and Away. An early start to a long day on teh way to another supermodified show. Back to California. The second time in a month for race 2 of the SMRA season.
Michael Barnes is along for the ride this time, but I’ve yet to secure a race car ride for him. It pisses me off. I’m not upset at anyone other than myself for ot being able to make it happen. Who knows, maybe once we get out there something may turn up.
So we’re about 30 minutes from Chitown on a puddle jumping aluminum tube that, even though it’s about about as rough looking as one of Jack Conley’s cars, it’s doing just what his rather unattractive hot rods always did-it’s getting the job done in short order.
Oddly enough, we passed over London, Ontario after going around Buffalo, two places that I’ll be driving to for another supermodified race this summer.
Sometimes I think of myself as a roadtrippin’ junkie similar to the legends of supermodified racing that came from Texas, Ohio, Washington or California and traveled the country going from race to race. Living on the road can be tough but it can also be a great experience. Enjoying a PWT (pure white trash) special, sleeping in the car and using the rest stop to shower in. Gross to some I’m sure, others, like me, kind of accept the psuedo gypsy lifestyle as not so bad. It is tough sometimes living hand to mouth and out of a suitcase, but as we start our initial descent into O’Hare, I can’t’ help but think that my life is great and I’m a lucky S.O.B. to have the friends I do and to get to experience the things I have.
